Why I Love Randy Seaver’s List
Have you tried to keep up with all the genealogy blogs but couldn’t take the time to read them all? I’ve got just the solution for you!
You’ve heard of Cyndi’s List of Genealogy Sites, and Craig’s List of things for sale, and Angie’s List of recommended companies, and the Geneablogger’s list of bloggers, but have you found a list of recommended blogs? I have.
This list doesn’t have “List” in it’s title, but I call it THE list because to me, it is.
I’m talking about Randy Seaver’s Genea-Musings “Best of the Genea-Blogs” which he publishes each Sunday.
To compile his list, Randy reads over 1700 blogs each week, then creates his “list” of about ten best blogs for the week. For his criteria, he picks “posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant.”
I like his list because:
- I can hit Randy’s list and discover the ones he things are the best blogs without having to read all 1700 myself.
- He introduces me to other bloggers I might not have known about.
- I get to read the best bloggers and learn from them.
- When he names one or more of MY blog post’s for the week, he makes my day! I always see an increase in traffic to my blog when he features mine.
So, next time you feel overwhelmed trying to keep up with all the genealogy blogs, just check out Randy’s Genea-Musings “Best of the Genea-Blogs” posted every Sunday.

Susan,
I only read about 1100 blogs…and my stats say there’s only about 250 posts read each day. I know that I miss many good ones, and some writers have more than one great one each week, but I usually pick the best of them IMHO.
Thanks for the shout-out!
Randy: Thanks for setting me straight about the numbers. You STILL do a great service to all by reading them as many as you do and posting your list. So, thank you!
